Automatic bike parking tower for Meilen expands V-Locker network

With the V-Locker bicycle park tower in Meilen with 20 individual storage boxes, another system goes into operation. In this way, V-Locker is creating mobility infrastructure that is intended to encourage cyclists to switch from cars to bicycles. V-Locker, a Dübendorf-based company, is planning to expand a network, and the next system will go into operation at Wallisellen station as early as this summer.

From 19 April 220423, commuters and short-term parkers will be able to enjoy new, comfortable and safe bicycle parking boxes in a space-saving tower construction at Meilen station. Bookable from home and available around the clock, the fully automatic parking tower is in line with the zeitgeist of the (e-)bike boom.

The municipality of Meilen aims to support bicycle mobility in order to reduce car journeys to the train station and to offer cyclists an attractive range of services with an attractive parking solution.

Contact with other interested communities is sought. “We are open to discussions at any time, our goal is to open up further stations and central locations in the canton of Zurich and Switzerland in 2023 – in order to offer commuters an attractive network,” says Jens Kirchhoff.

V-Locker combines many advantages and thus creates a real alternative for the use of the e-bike / bicycle instead of a car for commuting. The bike tower is operated exclusively via the app, a box can be reserved from the departure and opened on site with one click in the app. In addition to the safe storage of the bike, a helmet, rain cover and, for example, a backpack can be stowed in the separate storage compartment. To try out the innovative concept, you can activate 20 hours of parking with a code.

New usage options such as opening a box multiple times and sharing it with other users are just some of the planned innovations. In the near future, a bike repair service will be available via the app or the e-bike will be charged. And together with partners, rental bikes will one day be available for commuters without their own e-bike.
