Unique in the world – the V-Locker bicycle parking network in Bonn
In the city of Bonn, the world’s first network was created with four automatic and digitally operable bicycle parking facilities, which offer commuters and residents safe and comfortable bike boxes. “With our new service, we are once again making it easier to switch from cycling to public transport – the bicycle parking garage is a real milestone for Bonn’s traffic. We are very pleased that we have achieved this together with the city of Bonn,” says Anja Wenmakers, Managing Director of SWB Bus und Bahn.
A network of intelligent bicycle parking facilities in an urban environment creates new incentives for cycling and thus for sustainable mobility. The starting point is traffic concepts with cycle paths from point to point and parking facilities at traffic junctions. This creates a new quality of mobility for cyclists. And it is the development step towards future mobility hubs that will connect different means of transport and offer complementary services at the locations.
The V-Locker Project Bonn
The four locations of the V-Locker bicycle parking facilities were created within a short time at Beuel train station, Konrad-Adenauer-Platz, Stiftsplatz and Am Frankenbad. The modular design made it possible to plan the corresponding plant dimensions at the sites in relation to the capacity requirements.
A project in perfect cooperation with the municipal utilities, SWB Bus and Bahn. The entire bicycle house project is part of the “Emission-free city centre” funding project, which is jointly supported by the Federal City of Bonn, SWB Energie und Wasser and Stadtwerke Bonn Verkehrs GmbH. The European Regional Development Fund and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia support it financially.
