V-Locker is building the first Europe-wide intelligent bicycle parking system at four locations in Bonn.

Construction activities in Bonn are already well advanced. In the coming weeks, the two parking garages at Beuel station and Konrad-Adenauer-Platz will be put into operation. An official inauguration is expected to take place in mid-December.

Together with V-Locker, the project of Stadtwerke Bonn will be a novelty in digital integration. V-Locker’s flexible system and open API interfaces enable integration into the SWB app BONNmobil Mobility Platform, which will take place at the beginning of 2024. This allows the booking and use of various services, such as bus tickets, booking V-Locker bike boxes, etc. via a single app.

As many bikes as possible are to be accommodated in a small area

The bicycle parking facilities in Bonn are designed to accommodate many bicycles in the smallest possible area. In total, bicycle parking garages with a total of 280 lockable boxes will be built at four central locations in Bonn, so the densified use of space is important. 96 parking spaces will be created at Beuel station and 72 at Konrad-Adenauer-Platz. The modular parking systems for two-wheelers are also to be built at Konrad-Adenauer-Platz, Frankenbadplatz and Stiftsplatz by the end of 2023 and January 2024, respectively.

The project is part of the “Emission-Free Inner City” funding project, a joint project of the Federal City of Bonn, Energie und Wasser GmbH and Stadtwerke Bonn Verkehrs GmbH. The European Regional Development Fund and the Ministry of Economic Affairs of North Rhine-Westphalia support it financially.

Simple and fast operation for users

Using the app, it is possible to book a space in one of the bicycle parking garages in advance while on the road or at home. The opening, closing and ending of the rental process takes place with just a few clicks. Users must register beforehand, and V-Locker offers an app for this. The app shows whether boxes are available.
